December 2015 - Research from the National Literacy Trust shows the impact ebooks can have on boys’ reading
The National Literacy Trust have launched their latest research report this week, which shows that using ebooks to read can help boys in particular to make significant reading progress and get the most reluctant readers to enjoy reading more. The Impact of Ebooks on the Reading Motivation and Reading Skills of Young People found that during the project, which lasted for an average of 4.2 months, boys’ reading levels increased by an average of 8.4 months. The percentage of boys that felt reading was difficult also almost halved from 28.9% to 15.9%. Find out more and read the full report.

You can choose to give your family name or remain anonymous. There is also a box towards the end of the survey to allow comments, but please remember we are looking for overall feedback, if you have specific concerns regarding your child or wish to make a complaint please contact the School Office on 01425 672272 and a member of staff will call you back.
The survey will remain open until 29.01.2016 Thank you in advance for your time. Best wishes Mr Brown, Headteacher.

Launch of Online Payment System - Monday 19th October 2015
A letter will be coming home today regarding access to the online payment system.Setting up an account will allow you to check balances for school lunch money and trips and to make payments to the school using a debit card (please note we are not set up for credit cards at this time). You can also use your account for other tasks such as checking your payment history and reprinting receipts.
Please note: there will be a 32p transaction fee when paying online using this service and there is no limit to the number of items you can add to each transaction (so it will be worth paying for trips at the same time as lunches so you only incur one transaction fee!). 'Settling In' Meeting - Tuesday 6th October 2015

Hampshire County Council - Attendance Update
July 2015 - Revised leaflet issued - Information on Penalty Notices for Non Attendance at School - Advice for parents & Carers.
Information on non attendance at School & DRAFT - HCC Information on Penalty Notices for Non Attendance at School - Advice for parents & carers
In response to the changes in school attendance law Hampshire County Council has reviewed its 'Code of Conduct'. This code sets out for all schools what actions must be taken for any child with 10 or more sessions (5 days) of unauthorised absence from September 2015. We are clear in our code of conduct that where a child or family requires support to acheive attendance rates above 90% that this is the first priority for schools. We are also clear that where parent/carers choose to ignore the law and are complicit in their child's absence then all schools with the Local Authority must take legal action through a penalty notice fine or prosecution in court.
From September 2015 all schools will be required to work with Hampshire County Council to take legal action if:
- A child has unauthorised absence for 10 or more sessions.
- A child is continually late to school and this lateness is unauthorised for 10 or more sessions.
- A child has any unauthorised absence during any formal exmaniations, assessment or testing.
Please note each parent/carer can be issued a separate penalty notice for each child. For more information please see letter below dated 23rd March 2015.
Sickness & Diarrhoea

Year 6 SATs Evening - 19th January 2015
The children have been working very hard on their learning so far this year, but I know from experience that a real effort this term can make a big difference to the level achieved in May. The SATs are the beginning of the assessment process that leads to GCSEs and they have a significant impact on which learning groups your child is placed in at their chosen secondary school.
E-Learning Parents Workshop - 14th October 2014
Mrs Hack, a Child Exploitation & Online Protection (CEOP) e-safety ambassador offered to support us in helping parents keep their children safe when using the internet. Please find below some useful handouts used during the session.
New Reporting System - March 2014
We have been working on a comprehensive termly report format which I believe gives parents a picture of their child at school. We are now using the new report format. From now on you will receive a termly progress update report towards the end of the Autumn and Spring terms and a slightly more detailed report at the end of the Summer term. This report will give you the progress and attainment of your child at the end of the year as well as comments on their wider achievements at school.
The report will include a number of gradings. To help make these understandable, please find below guidance sheets which you can use to see what the numbers mean and how the teachers have reached their decisions. We will support the report with a Teacher/Parent Consultation Meeting.
