May I take this opportunity of extending a very warm welcome to you and your child as you enter into the life of Bransgore School. I believe the primary years are the most important in a child’s life and certainly the most exciting. The sense of wonder and discovery as a child sets out in learning is a privilege to observe and be part of.

The team at Bransgore School are totally committed to providing our children with the very best education possible. Our vision is to create a centre of excellence where everyone feels valued, safe and happy to learn. I would encourage all parents thinking about sending their child to Bransgore to book an appointment to visit the school and talk with me.You are most sincerely welcome.

School Lunches
Children can choose whether they have a home packed lunch or a school cooked lunch.
Although we do not police packed lunches we do, as part of the 'Healty Schools' initiative, promote healthy eating as outlined in our Food Policy.
Every day excellent cooked meals are prepared and served by Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Clapperton and enjoyed by the children and staff.
The current menu is available in the Reception area in school or you can visit the Hamphire school dinners provider website.
Payment for school meals must be made in advance. This can be weekly (£10.00 per week) on Monday morning, or half termly on the first day of school. If you think you may be entittled to free school meals please ask at the office for a form.
Attendance

Good attendance is important because:
* Regular attenders make better progress, both socially and academically
* Regular attenders find school routines and school work easier to cope with
* Regular attenders find learning more satisfying
* Regular attenders have an easier transfer to secondary school

As a parent you can help us by:
* Ringing on the first morning of all absences with the reason
* Arranging dental and doctor’s appointments out of school hours or during school holidays
* Keeping us updated by telephone or letter if your child has an extended period of absence due to illness.

Term Time Leave of Absence
We are always concerned about the amount of school time pupils miss as a result of family holidays. Government guidance states that “Parents should not normally take pupils on holidays during term time” and “ Schools can only agree to absence for a family holiday if they believe there are special circumstances which warrant it”

Leave of absence is only allowed at the discretion of the Headteacher, in accordance with the school policy as agreed by governors. The fact a holiday is cheaper during term time is unlikely to be considered as “special circumstances” Parents wishing to apply for leave of absence need to fill in an Leave of Absence application form well in advance and before booking.

No more than 10 school days absence is likely to be granted in one school year. If the request is not approved by the Headteacher
and the parent proceeds to take the pupil out of school, all the absence during this period will be recorded as unauthorised. Further time than allowed will be also be unauthorised.

Please avoid taking a holiday in September as it is very unsettling for a child to miss the start of the school, year.

No holiday will be authorised in May for children taking SATS (Years 2 and 6). Please read our Attendance Leaflet for more information. The ' Leave of School Absence' forms can be found in the school reception area.

Bransgore School Association

The school is pleased to have a very active Parent Teacher Association (BSA) which supports the school in a variety of ways:

  • Raising funds for the school to provide additional facilities and equipment.
  • Organising social events for the children throughout the year to help make their time at Bransgore School as enjoyable as possible.
  • Providing assistance within the school at special events.

We are always looking for help from parents and relatives of children at the school – from active participation in the organisation and running of the events that we hold, through to simply coming along to one or two social events each year for the parents which give you the opportunity to meet and get to know each other, have fun and raise money for the school.

Over the last few years we have been able to raise money to build an Amphitheatre and a science and Nature Walk. Recently we were able to move the pond from the front playground to the rear playing field, providing more room for the children to play securely. All volunteers are welcome, especially new parents, so please get involved if you can.
